House of Kal Colombo
House of Kal Karachi
Deadline: 30 April
The trans*oceanic platform a language where yesterday and tomorrow are the same word. kal (kal) is excited to announce an opportunity for a group of emerging art practitioners permanently or temporarily based in either Colombo or Karachi whose work explores feminist, anti-fascist, anti-racist and queer possibility. The Houses of Kal are conceived as a low-residency program with a public programming and publishing outlet as well as a collective and self-organized space in the making.
The Houses of Kal are created to run concurrently in Colombo, Karachi and Berlin as part of the international art project kal. The project’s name takes as inspiration the poet Fatimah Asghar’s invocation of the Hindi-Urdu word ‘kal’, which considers the past and the future interchange- able and makes it possible to unhinge dominant contours of time or being.
The Houses of Kal will summon a multiplicity of approaches to learning, sharing, healing, and co-living as a collaborative practice between emerging artists and transdisciplinary practitioners with the aim of fostering community and solidarity, locally and across borders. The Houses invite practitioners interested in discourse and praxis at the crossings of art-making, feminisms, and eco-politics with an emphasis on collaboration and care for each other’s practices.
